Tunnel structures are subjected to different forms of stress while in use. In addition to permanent or frequent stress, there can also be extraordinary stress situations. This includes fire, for example. Safety inside and on the structure must be ensured for a sufficient period, even under such enormous exposure. To improve structural fire protection, all road tunnel structures (arches, walls, ceilings and any intermediate ceiling areas) that are to be newly built using polypropylene (PP) fibre concrete must be constructed in line with the engineering guideline ZTV-ING – part 5, tunnel construction.
MFPA Leipzig GmbH provides concrete-technology support for using PP fibre concrete on behalf of the building contractor or the construction company. This expert support includes monitoring and review activities using sample components, assistance for drawing up and checking quality assurance plans, as well as in-process monitoring and verification audits. Reviews performed in the context of such verification audits include:
- Checking the slump diameter according to DIN EN 12350-3,
- Checking the air content of fresh concrete according to DIN EN 12350-7,
- PP fibre wash-out testing on fresh concrete in line with the öbv Council Directive for higher structural fire protection requirements for underground traffic structures made of concrete
- Determination of the amount of filtrate water according to the ÖVBB leaflet about soft concretes
- Verification of PP fibres in hardened concrete according to ZTV-ING in conjunction with the öbv Council
- Directive for higher structural fire protection requirements for underground traffic structures made of concrete
- Determination of compressive strength according to DIN EN 12390-3
